Eastbound I-84 traffic will shift into median at Broadway Interchange Sunday overnight
BOISE – Starting Sunday night (Dec. 14),
traffic on eastbound Interstate 84 will be shifted into the median at the Broadway
Interchange, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.
Eastbound I-84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction overnight Sunday night from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. as crews put the new traffic pattern in place. Next week, traffic on westbound I-84 will be shifted into the median.
Traffic will be shifted inward from the I-84 railroad bridges to just west of the Broadway Interchange.
Through next summer, traffic will use the median as crews rebuild the outside lanes of I-84 and the railroad bridges just east of the Broadway Interchange.
In addition, the I-84 eastbound off-ramp at Broadway will be reduced to one lane through the end of the project, so crews have room to build the permanent ramp and excavate the drainage area.
“Over the past several weeks, we have been paving the I-84 median to prepare for this traffic shift,” said ITD Project Engineer Dana Weiss. “As work on the outside lanes gears up, drivers will see increased construction activity on the interstate. So remember to slow down, pay attention and take extra caution when traveling through the work zone.”

The work is part of ITD’s project to widen I-84 to three lanes in each direction between the Broadway and Gowen interchanges. The Broadway and Gowen interchange structures are also being replaced, along with the Gowen Railroad structures.
Construction is expected to be complete in late 2015.
