I-84 westbound traffic continues detour through Rupert, Burley
BURLEY – Westbound traffic continues to be diverted away from Interstate 84 in southern Minidoka County after a semi-truck crash closed the roadway on Monday morning (Dec. 22), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. At least one lane is expected to be opened by the end of the day. Full opening of the roadway may take additional time.
Both westbound lanes of I-84 are closed and traffic is being detoured beginning at the Declo interchange (Exit 216) north on Idaho 25 through Rupert, as well as south on Idaho 77 through Declo and Burley. Traffic is returning to I-84 at the Heyburn interchange (Exit 211).
The semi crashed into the guardrail and concrete wall crossing over the A Canal at about milepost 214 and started on fire. Approximately 200 feet of guardrail has been damaged. Once emergency operations are complete, crews will temporarily replace the steel guardrail with concrete rail and assess the roadway for additional damage.
