Improvements to Karcher Road (Idaho 55) and Middleton Road intersection to start in February
BOISE—Intersection improvements are slated to begin at one of Nampa’s busiest intersections, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
ITD and the city of Nampa are partnering to rebuild the intersection at Karcher Road (Idaho 55) and Middleton Road, with work scheduled to begin Feb. 9, and wrap up in fall 2015.
Improvements will include the construction of new lanes, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and a new traffic signal. Once completed, the intersection will boost safety and ease congestion along that stretch of Karcher Road. Approximately 30,0000 vehicles use that intersection daily.
On Karcher Road, construction will occur west of Elijah Drain to near Sundance Street. On Middleton Road, work will span from Aries Drive to Hailey Avenue. The speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 35 in the work zone with one lane open in each direction. Access to local businesses and residences will remain open.
C&A Paving is the general contractor on this $3.8 million project that is being funded jointly by ITD and the city of Nampa.
“This has been a long-awaited project for Nampa,” said Nampa Mayor Bob Henry. “In addition to the safety concerns at that intersection, the congestion has been a long-standing problem.”
