Soil testing will require lane restrictions at Snake River Bridge in Marsing Feb. 23 - March 9

MARSING - Daytime lane restrictions will begin at Idaho 55's Snake River Bridge in Marsing on Monday (Feb. 23), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The lane restrictions will allow crews to conduct soil tests for an upcoming project to replace the bridge and improve the roadway.

Through March 9, traffic on the bridge will be restricted to one lane Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flaggers will direct traffic across the bridge. Oversized vehicles will be detoured to alternate highway routes.

Motorists can expect short delays while lane restrictions are in place. Boaters are asked to use caution when passing under the bridge.

The transportation department is planning to replace the Snake River Bridge and improve the surface of Idaho 55 between Marsing and the U.S. 95 junction. The bridge was built in 1951 and is showing signs of wear that could become more serious in the future. The existing piers are not long enough to withstand major flooding, and the deck needs to be improved to handle the weight of today’s trucking loads.

The design of the project is underway. The public will be invited to review and comment on preliminary design plans this summer.
