I-84 closed under Meridian Interchange Friday, Saturday nights (Feb. 20-21)
MERIDIAN – Interstate 84 will be closed underneath the Meridian Road Interchange Friday and Saturday nights (Feb. 20 and 21), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Crews will place girders for the west half of the new interchange bridge over I-84.
The closure will begin at 10 p.m. both nights and end at 7 a.m. the following mornings. During the closure, flaggers will detour eastbound and westbound traffic
from the interstate across the interchange. Motorists will exit and
re-enter I-84 using the on- and off-ramps.
“Crews will place 28 girders over the weekend,” said Jayme Coonce, ITD District 3 Project Engineer. “The girders that support the bridge deck are concrete beams weighing approximately 73,000 pounds each.”
Next week, overnight lane restrictions will be in place on I-84 under the bridge from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays and until 7 a.m. on weekends. Crews will begin building the bridge deck and continue working on the east half of the new interchange bridge.
Construction of the new Meridian Road Interchange is expected to be complete late this year. Concrete Placing Company, of Boise, is the contractor for the project.
