Bridge repair on Wallace Viaduct will close ramp, restrict speed next week

WALLACE - Repairs to the Wallace Viaduct to stabilize cracking modular joints in the bridge deck will close the on-ramp and reduce the speed limit near the bridge Monday–Wednesday (March 2-4). The work will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

An ITD Bridge crew will install one-inch-thick stabilizing steel plates on the modular joints on the eastbound side of the westbound Wallace Viaduct, which was built in 1991. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone as crews complete work on the main travel lane and passing lane, switching traffic to the opposite side of the lane where they are working.

About a one-foot by ten-inch piece of steel fell out from the bottom of the bridge joint on Friday (Feb. 20). The piece fell on the bike path, but no one was hurt. An ITD crew will put a steel plate over the top of this joint.
