Speed limit on Idaho 47 near Ashton to be lowered to 35 mph Tuesday (March 24)
RIGBY - The speed limit on Idaho 47 near Ashton will be reduced from 45 to 35 mph with the installation of new signs Tuesday (March 24), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The effort reflects ITD’s goal to provide the safest highway system possible.
The change will affect a one-quarter-mile stretch of Idaho 47 between Ashton city limits and the highway’s junction with Idaho 32.
An Ashton resident asked ITD traffic engineers to conduct a speed-zone study, results of which prompted the change. Considerations included the road’s proximity to North Fremont High School and the graduated speed zones on routes elsewhere in eastern Idaho.
Speed limits are intended to supplement driver judgment of what is a reasonable speed for a particular stretch of road under favorable weather conditions.
Motorists should take extra care while highway crews are changing signs along the route.
Idaho State Police and local law enforcement officers will patrol the highway during and after the speed-limit transition.
