Public meeting planned Tuesday to discuss Stanton Crossing bridge project
SHOSHONE – The public is invited to attend an open house Tuesday (April 7) to discuss reconstruction of the Big Wood River Bridge on U.S. 20 known as Stanton Crossing, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The current bridge, considered structurally deficient, was constructed in 1956 and carries an average of 1,500 vehicles per day.
The open house will be Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Shoshone Community Center at 201 South Beverly Street in Shoshone, which is located at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.
ITD staff will be on hand to answer questions and gather comments about the proposed bridge reconstruction and road work. The primary goal of the project, scheduled to begin in 2018, will be to reconstruct and widen the bridge at milepost 176 (about two miles west of Timmerman Junction), reconstruct the adjacent roadway, and realign and improve highway access for the local road and Stanton Crossing campground.
The project proposal includes plans to close one of the campground access roads, reconstruct and flatten the remaining access, and realign the local roadway and campground loop.
Illustrations of the bridge and roadway work will be available to view. ITD staff will be on hand to discuss the project specifics, including bridge and roadway design, and construction schedules and restrictions. ITD is collecting input from members of the public about the project and potential issues.
