Construction on U.S. 93 and Idaho 28 in Salmon starts Monday (April 6)

RIGBY - Construction on U.S. 93 and Idaho 28 in Salmon – Main Street – will begin Monday (April 6), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The project will enhance and preserve state highways in Lemhi County, improving safety and pavement ride for motorists.

Crews will repair curb and gutter along Main Street between the Salmon River Bridge and Lemhi Road, and install a ramp at the southwest corner of the intersection of Main Street and Church Street in accordance with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Workers will resurface the 1.1-mile stretch of highway and one-third of a mile of U.S. 93 (Challis Street), south of Main Street in Salmon, and then resurface 18 miles of the highway between Salmon and Rattlesnake Creek. The project is scheduled for completion in June.

During resurfacing, travel will be reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. Motorists can expect delays.

Commercial drivers transporting permitted loads wider than 14 feet need to contact ITD Resident Engineer Wade Allen (208-745-5680) or Staff Engineer Bryan Young (208-745-5682) 48 hours in advance of travel for special authorization to pass through the construction zone.

Drivers should proceed cautiously, watching for construction workers and equipment, and obeying all traffic signs.

The transportation department awarded the $3.6-million contract to Western Construction Inc., of Boise.
