Bridge maintenance will impact traffic on North Orchard Street in April and May

BOISE – Bridge maintenance work will affect traffic on Orchard Street south of Fairview Avenue from April 13 to late May, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The work is part of a project to extend the lifespan of 10 bridges along the I-184 Connector and I-84 this spring and summer.

Beginning April 13, Orchard Street will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Bond and Irving streets. Drivers are urged to slow down and pay attention to traffic shifts. In addition, the on-ramp to the I-184 Connector will be closed to southbound Orchard Street traffic until late May.

On the nights of April 13 and 14, the I-184 Connector on-ramp from Fairview Avenue will be closed and the Connector reduced to two lanes in both directions from Curtis Street to Chinden Boulevard. The overnight restrictions will protect traffic while the contractor removes the top layer of concrete from the Orchard Street Bridge. Restrictions will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. both nights. Westbound I-184 restrictions will continue until 11 a.m.

The speed limit will be 25 mph on Orchard Street and 50 mph on the I-184 Connector while lane restrictions are in effect.

In addition to the Orchard Street Bridge, nine other bridges along the Connector and I-84 will be repaired or resurfaced between April and August. ITD will patch concrete, resurface and waterproof the bridge decks, repaint steel rails and conduct other routine maintenance. Work will begin on the remaining nine bridges in early June.

ITD will send email updates about lane and ramp closures. To sign up, email comments@itd.idaho.gov or call (208) 334-8005.

Braun-Jensen, Inc., of Payette, is the contractor for this $1.4 million bridge-maintenance project.
