Lane closures next week highlight work on Greensferry Overpass in Post Falls
POST FALLS -- A pair of overnight lane closure next week will impact traffic during construction of the Greensferry Overpass in Post Falls, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. Construction began in early December 2014 and is expected to finish next fall.
The eastbound right lane will close overnight on Tuesday (April 21) and the westbound left lane on Wednesday night (April 22) between milepost 6.0 and 6.3 as construction crews set bridge girders. In both cases, the closure will start at 9 p.m. and end by 6 a.m. the following morning, Pacific Time.
Flaggers will be on hand to guide traffic through the affected area, and electronic signs will be used in advance of the work to alert motorists.
A new bridge spanning Interstate 90 and Schneidmiller Avenue on the south side of the freeway is being built. The project will improve connectivity, traffic mobility and emergency response between the business districts and residential areas north and south of the interstate. Roadway construction will follow construction of the overpass.
The overpass will give drivers another option besides traveling through Post Falls, and will provide a route for those going from the north to the south of the interstate rather than a five-mile detour. The new bridge over the freeway will connect Greensferry Road between Seltice Way and Mullan Avenue.
Ralph L. Wadsworth (RLW), of Draper, Utah, is the firm responsible for this $15-million project.
The work is a design-build project, which streamlines the effort by having a single point of responsibility (RLW) that will complete overlapping design and construction phases of the project. When completed, the new structure will feature two lanes in each direction, a center-turn lane, bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides connecting to Centennial Park.
The Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency funded the project.
