I-84 ramp restrictions at Idaho 50 interchange begin Monday for installation of metal cattle guards
EDEN – Metal cattle guards will be installed on the entry and exit ramps at the Interstate 84-Idaho 50 interchange (Exit 182) beginning Monday (May 4), the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Work will restrict traffic on the ramps, but they will remain open through the project's expected completion by the end of May.
The metal cattle guards are being installed at this location to reduce the likelihood of cattle entering I-84 and jeopardizing safety for interstate travelers. The cattle guards will replace less-effective surface striping at this location.
“The striped cattle guards work well in the less agricultural areas where cattle are encountered less frequently,” District Four Operations Manager Walter Burnside said. “The metal cattle guards provide better assurances that we are keeping cattle out of the interstate area and maintaining safer travel.”
To complete the work, the roadway at each location will be cut and a pre-fabricated concrete and metal cattle guard will be installed. Adjoining fence work will be completed as well. Work may be scheduled at night when possible to minimize impact to daytime traffic.
A cautionary speed limit of 25 mph and a 14-foot width restriction will be in effect on each ramp while work is completed.
The $268,000 project is under contract with Granite Excavation, of Cascade.
