July 18 Open House set for U.S. 95 McArthur Lake Safety Improvement and Wildlife Crossing Project
COUER d ALENE - A public open house will be held Tuesday (July 18) to review proposed safety improvements to a two-mile section of U.S. 95 at McArthur Lake, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

The open house will be at Naples Elementary School, located at the corner of Trail Creek Road and Old U.S. 95, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Roadway alignment alternatives and evaluation criteria identified by the public and a local working group will be presented.

The project examines how to improve motorist safety, including animal-vehicle collisions and driver visibility. U.S. 95 near the intersection with Highland Flat Road/Country Road #4 (between Elmira and Naples) is curved and narrow. One of the proposed safety improvements would straighten this section of roadway. The project  also would replace a culvert over Deep Creek with a bridge.

Public input has been incorporated throughout the planning process of this project and has helped shape the criteria and selection of the proposed safety improvements. A public open house was held in January; a working group has met three times; and interviews with individual citizens have been conducted.

J-U-B Engineers, Inc. of Coeur dAlene is the design consultant on this project. The Langdon Group, Inc. is facilitating the projects public involvement efforts.
