Speed limit reduced on U.S. 95/Lewiston Hill
LEWISTON - The speed limit has been reduced on U.S. 95 from the section of the highway that runs from the bottom of Lewiston Hill to the top of Lewiston Hill, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The change, which took effect on Friday, reduced the speed limit from 65 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour in both directions of the highway. It is anticipated the speed will remain at 45 miles per hour until July 31, or until it is no longer needed.
The transportation department is doing a pavement rehabilitation project. This section of U.S. 95 carries more than 10,000 vehicles per day.
The highway in this five-mile section is in poor condition, which has resulted in many potholes in the driving surface. This pavement rehabilitation is expected to extend the life of the road by about 20 years.
Knife River Corporation, Boise, is the contractor on the $11.5 million project.
The contractor will work Mondays through Saturdays, 20 hours per day, to complete this project as quickly as possible and minimize impacts to drivers.
