Major changes at the Meridian Interchange and Meridian Road this weekend as I-84 construction reaches key milestone

MERIDIAN – The Idaho Transportation Department will close and remove the eastbound Interstate 84 “loop” on-ramp from southbound Meridian Road on Friday (June 26) at 10 p.m. The loop ramp is being removed to make way for a new longer and wider eastbound off-ramp that will be part of the new I-84-Meridian Interchange.

All motorists will be able to access eastbound I-84 from Meridian Road using a temporary signal. Click here for a fact sheet to learn more about what to expect through the summer.

“Over the next several weeks, drivers will begin to see the new Meridian Interchange visibly take shape as construction nears the final phase,” said Jayme Coonce, ITD Project Engineer. “Shifting traffic onto the ramps that are part of the final configuration for the new single-point urban interchange is a key milestone.”

On Friday and Saturday nights (June 26 and 27), Meridian Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction with flaggers between Central Drive and Overland Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews will be shifting traffic to the east. The traffic shift will remain in place through the summer as crews rebuild the west side of Meridian Road.

All on- and off-ramps at the Meridian Interchange will be shifted to the north and temporary signals will be installed.

The work zone speed limit is 35 mph on Meridian Road and 55 mph on I-84. ITD urges drivers to leave early, slow down and pay attention.

Concrete Placing Company is the contractor on the $50.8 million project.
