New High Intensity Active Crosswalk Signal (HAWK) at Idaho 45 and Colorado Avenue in Nampa
BOISE--Crews placed a new High Intensity Active Crosswalk Signal (HAWK) at the intersection of Idaho 45 and Colorado Avenue near Nampa High School. The HAWK, which features the installation of a concrete median, was constructed as part of safety improvements along Idaho 45. As a result, the signal will make it easier for pedestrians and students to cross Idaho 45 safely.
The City of Nampa and ITD are excited for this new pedestrian improvement.
“Hundreds of students cross this section of 12th Avenue,” said Jeff Barnes, Nampa Staff Engineer. “With 30,000 vehicles traveling this road daily, the pedestrian hybrid beacon crossing is critical to providing an extra measure of safety.”
Because of the new concrete median, traffic patterns at the intersection of Idaho 45 and Colorado Avenue have changed. Motorists headed southbound on Idaho 45 will no longer be able to turn left onto Colorado Avenue. In addition, motorists traveling on Colorado Avenue towards Idaho 45 will only be able to turn right onto Idaho 45 headed northbound.
Resurfacing and pedestrian improvements on Idaho 45 in Nampa, from Deer Flat Road to 3rd Street South, started in May. Crews have finished resurfacing work in sections one, two and three (Deer Flat to 14th Street South). Resurfacing in section four (14th Street South to 3rd Street South) is scheduled to start in early July. Pedestrian ramp reconstruction work for all sections (Deer Flat to 3rd Street South) is nearing completion.
Crews are completing the project in four sections, detailed below. Resurfacing will occur mostly during nighttime hours with lane restrictions, though some resurfacing work may be done during the day with lane restrictions. Area residents and businesses may experience construction-related noises and lights during nighttime resurfacing work.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to drive with caution through construction zones and be alert for abrupt edges in section four (14th Street South to 3rd Street South).
