Update: Lane restrictions and flagging on Idaho 55 at the North Fork Payette River Bridge near Cascade through next week
CASCADE – Idaho 55 just north of Cascade will be reduced to one lane during the day through next week, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. Lanes will be reduced on Idaho 55 at the North Fork Payette River Bridge from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday and noon on Fridays. Flaggers will be directing alternating traffic in each direction.
This work is part of ITD’s project to replace the bridge in order to meet today’s safety standards and traffic loads.
Later this month, traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed east side of the Idaho 55 North Fork Payette River Bridge. After traffic is shifted, crews will demolish the west side of the existing bridge.
The speed limit in the work zone is 25 mph.
The North Fork Payette River Bridge is expected to be completely rebuilt by late this year. The project includes building two new lanes, shoulders and sidewalks over the bridge. Additionally, the roadway approaches on each side of the bridge will be improved and rebuilt.
In addition, work to place a chipseal on Idaho 55 continues, with operations expected to be near Cascade this week. Drivers are encouraged to give themselves extra time and expect delays on Idaho 55.
