Construction to widen and improve I-84 under the Meridian Interchange begins this weekend (July 17-19)
BOISE--The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) reminds motorists to watch for lane restrictions and increased construction activity as crews begin to widen and improve Interstate 84 at the Meridian Interchange this weekend (July 17-19).
By Monday (July 20), traffic on I-84 at the Meridian Interchange will be shifted to the outside shoulders as crews begin working in the median to construct a fourth lane in both directions.
Starting Friday (July 17), lanes will be restricted on I-84 under the Meridian Interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays and to 7 a.m. on weekends. Through Sunday (July 19), crews will be striping, moving guardrail and staging the area under the Meridian Interchange to prepare for work on this section of I-84.
“When complete, eastbound and westbound I-84 will be widened to four lanes at the Meridian Interchange,” said ITD Project Engineer Jayme Coonce. “For the next several months, the parameters of the work zone on I-84 will extend out past the Meridian Interchange ramps.”
Merging conditions will be continually adjusted at the I-84 Meridian Interchange as crews rebuild the interstate through late this year.
“Changes will be made to the I-84 on-ramps throughout construction,” Coonce said. “The dedicated exit lanes from I-84 to Meridian Road will also be removed.”
ITD urges drivers to leave early, slow down and pay attention during this final summer season of construction on I-84.
“For the next several weeks, work under the Meridian Interchange will overlap with ongoing construction to rehabilitate I-84 between Five Mile and Meridian,” said Coonce. “Construction on I-84 in the west Treasure Valley is going to get busier.”
Construction of all I-84 improvements in the Treasure Valley will be complete late this year.
