Westbound Interstate 84 crossover pattern at Gowen to be removed Wednesday night (July 22)

BOISE--On Wednesday night (July 22), Interstate 84 traffic will be shifted into a new configuration as crews remove the crossover traffic pattern on westbound I-84 between the Eisenman and Gowen interchanges, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

By Thursday morning (July 23), I-84 near the Gowen Interchange will have one lane open on the eastbound side and westbound side of the interstate. Click here for a map.

The crossover pattern was put in place several months ago so crews could construct improvements on the westbound side of the Gowen Interchange. Work accomplished over the spring and summer includes tearing down and rebuilding the I-84 westbound bridge over Gowen Road and constructing the new westbound on- and off-ramps.

“Construction of the I-84 bridges over Gowen Road is now finished, and work on the new interchange is nearing completion,” said Daris Bruce, ITD Resident Engineer. “Throughout the summer and fall, crews will continue widening and improving Gowen Road.”

I-84 between the Eisenman and Gowen interchanges will be returned to two lanes in each direction later this summer while crews finish placing guardrail, removing temporary pavement and working on completing the drainage.

“Work on the interstate improvements at the Broadway Interchange wrapped up a few weeks ago, and we expect that construction on I-84 at the Gowen Interchange will be done in early September,” said Bruce. “The last step will be to put a seal coat on this newly widened and improved east I-84 corridor, which will likely be done later this summer.”

The I-84 Gowen Interchange Project includes rebuilding Gowen Road from Federal Way to S. Eisenman Road. Gowen Road is being widened to two lanes in both directions, with a third lane on the eastbound side. In addition, the intersection of Gowen Road and Federal Way is being improved to allow for a smoother, more efficient flow of traffic. Construction is expected to be complete late this year.

Construction updates will be sent via email and posted on the project website at www.itd.idaho.gov/GowenInterchange.To sign up for construction updates, contact ITD at comments@itd.idaho.gov, visit the project website or call (208) 334-8005.
