Idaho 31 bridge replacement and roadwork north of Swan Valley starts Monday (July 27)

RIGBY - Work on Idaho 31 north of Swan Valley will start Monday (July 27), the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. The project is scheduled to finish in late September.

Crews will survey and set out traffic signs/markers in preparation for replacing the West Pine Creek Bridge, which is 9.5 miles north of Swan Valley in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The new bridge will be located 100 yards up the road from the old one.

Bridge replacement will take place Mondays through Fridays, starting Aug. 4.

Motorists should be prepared to stop during construction, should expect delays and should watch for construction workers and equipment.

In addition to replacing the bridge, which was built in 1936, the project will include moving a stretch of West Pine Creek to its original channel to improve stream integrity and aquatics.

The project also will include realigning the intersection of a U.S. Forest Service road with Idaho 31 to improve sight and stopping distance and increase turning range. The Forest Service helped plan the upgrades.

ITD awarded the $634,000 contract to Knife River Corporation’s southern Idaho division, based in Boise.
