Paving on Idaho 27, Idaho 77 to begin this week

BURLEY – Roadway resurfacing work on two sections of highway in the Mini-Cassia area is expected to begin this week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The roadway overlay project will take place between Interstate 84 and Paul on Idaho 27 followed by work on Idaho 77 between Declo and I-84.

The project will begin with project preparation and an asphalt test strip on Friday (Aug. 7) on Idaho 27 near I-84. With a passing test strip, the contractor expects to begin paving the remainder of the Idaho 27 project area on Aug. 17. Work on Idaho 77 is expected to begin Aug. 24.

The project consists of a thin asphalt overlay expected to improve roadway smoothness and increase life expectancy. The project also includes installation of waterproof seals to the concrete surface of two canal crossings on the two highways. The asphalt will be milled off the bridges and sealed before being  repaved.

During all construction activities, the roadway will be reduced to one lane. During work hours – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday – drivers should watch for flaggers and a pilot car will be in operation. Traffic delays of 15 minutes may be experienced and a 13-foot width restriction will be in effect. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Western Construction Inc., of Boise, is the contractor for the $1.27 million roadway maintenance project. The work is expected to be complete by the end of August.
