ITD encourages drivers to use an alternate route as crews begin seal coat on the east Boise I-84 corridor Thursday (Aug. 20)
BOISE – Crews will work for approximately a week in late August to apply a seal coat on Interstate 84 between the Broadway and Eisenman interchanges. Applying a seal coat will extend the life of asphalt that was recently placed as part of widening and improving this stretch of Interstate 84.
Seal coating is expected to begin Thursday (Aug. 20). Today through Wednesday (Aug. 17-19), drivers can expect to see changing traffic patterns, heavy equipment and increased activity between Broadway and Eisenman as crews prep the work zone. This work is weather-dependent.

I-84 on- and off-ramps at Broadway and Gowen will be intermittently closed throughout the week when the seal coat is being applied (Aug. 20-26). Intermittent lane restrictions will also be in place on the ramps at these two interchanges. On Thursday and Friday (Aug. 20 and 21) ramp closures are anticipated to be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“While crews are seal coating the ramps, drivers will travel across loose gravel,” said ITD Project Manager Merrill Sharp. “When entering and exiting I-84 at Broadway and Gowen, slow down and leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.”
During seal coat work, two lanes will be open in each direction on I-84 between Broadway and Gowen; one lane will be open in each direction from Gowen to Eisenman. The speed limit will be 55 mph in the work zone between Broadway and Eisenman. The speed limit on the ramps at Broadway and Gowen will be reduced to 35 mph with an advisory of 25 mph.
