Culvert replacement, deep pavement repair planned for stretch of Idaho 8 from Deary to Bovil starting today
LEWISTON - Culvert replacement begins today (Tuesday, Aug. 18) on a 10-mile section of Idaho 8 from Deary to Bovill, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The work is expected to finish by late September. Next May, a deep pavement treatment is planned in the same area. That work is expected to add about 20 years to the pavement’s lifespan.
The project begins at the junction of Idaho 3 and Idaho 8 in Deary at milepost 26.3 and ends at the junction of the two roads in Bovill at milepost 36.3. In that section, all 55 of the 24-inch and 36-inch-diameter culverts will be replaced. These culverts have not been replaced since 1957.
Single-lane closures will be needed during culvert replacements. The contractor is planning to work 10-hour-days five days per week, Mondays through Fridays. Work zones will be limited to two-mile sections, with flaggers and pilot cars guiding traffic through the area.
The work next summer, from mid-May to mid-June, consists of a CRABS (Cement Recycled Asphalt Base Stabilization) resurfacing process and an overlay.
The highway was originally constructed in 1928, and curve improvements and road widening projects were completed in 1957 and 1995, respectively.
Poe Asphalt Paving Inc., of Lewiston, is the contractor on this $3 million project.
