Replacement of Race Creek Bridge on U.S. 95 near Riggins begins Sept. 1; public-information meeting slated for Aug. 28
LEWISTON - Construction of a new, longer and wider bridge across Race Creek on U.S. 95 near Riggins will begin Sept. 1 and continue through mid-February 2016, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
Crews will replace the existing 72-foot-long concrete structure, built in 1932 and located between milepost 196.6 and 196.9, with a 102-foot-long, pre-stressed concrete bridge. The new bridge will also be wider (40 feet wide vs. 24 feet wide). The existing bridge is classified as functionally obsolete because it is too narrow.

A public-information meeting for this project will be held Aug. 28, upstairs in the Riggins Community Center, at 121 Lodge Street. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Mountain.
The project also will include replacing nearly 1,500 feet of guardrail with concrete barrier, and constructing roadway approaches to the bridge.
Contractors are scheduled to work Mondays through Fridays, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. U.S. 95 will be reduced to a single, 16-foot-wide lane in the project area during construction.
Temporary traffic signals will be used to control traffic on both ends of the construction area and on Race Creek Road at its intersection with U.S. 95.
West Company Inc., of Airway Heights, Wash., was awarded the $2.3 million contract.
