Riverton Road, south of Blackfoot, closed and detour in place following morning bridge strike by track hoe
POCATELLO - Riverton Road is closed and a detour is in place as Idaho Transportation Department crews assess the damage and ensure necessary repairs to the overpass after a track hoe struck the bridge this morning, Thursday (Aug. 20). The overpass is about one mile south of Blackfoot at milepost 92. Riverton Road crosses Interstate 15 at that location.
Three concrete structural-support beams sustained extensive damage, prompting closure of the overpass for the safety of the motoring public. The northbound travel lanes of I-15 were temporarily closed at the location.

Drivers are asked to use the signed detour. No through traffic is allowed on Riverton Road.
ITD does not yet know the cost of repairs, but crews will need to replace multiple structural beams and bridge-deck surfaces.
The track hoe is owned by Cannon Builders Inc. of Blackfoot.
