Access to Dingle Pond in Bear Lake County will be limited

BOISE - Recreationists who visit Dingle Pond are being advised that access will be intermittently limited starting Thursday, Sept. 24, while improvements are made to the property. Access will be limited for about a month.

The Idaho Transportation Department is beginning the final phase of a project that will restore wildlife habitat, protect water quality and provide better management of the pond, which is a quarry that is no longer used by the department as a source for gravel.

Since the 1990s, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has stocked the pond with fish.

Improvements being made to the area by the transportation department will offset environmental impacts made to other areas as a result of highway construction projects.

The planned work will enhance the site’s value as wildlife habitat, as well as improve fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. Improvements include the creation of additional open water, the acquisition of additional river-front access, providing walking trails and a fishing bridge. Future improvements will include a handicapped-accessible dock provided by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Dingle Pond lies adjacent to the Bear River east of Dingle in Bear Lake County, Idaho. To determine if access to the pond is open or closed, please contact Adam Rush at adam.rush@itd.idaho.gov or at (208) 334-8119.
