Work begins this week to improve on- and off-ramps at five interchanges in southwest Idaho

BOISE – This week, the Idaho Transportation Department will begin constructing improvements at five interchanges in southwest Idaho. Four of the interchanges are in Boise and one is near Notus.

Improvements will include repaving on- and off-ramps and updating pedestrian facilities to meet current Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards. Many of the ramps will receive a “mill and inlay,” treatment, in which crews will grind off the top layer of pavement before laying new pavement. This work is preventative maintenance to extend the life of the roadway surface.

In general, crews will work on the ramps at night and the pedestrian curbs during the day. ITD anticipates paving operations will be done from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will require nighttime lane restrictions at the on-and-off ramps.

Access to surrounding businesses and residences will remain open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with temporary restrictions during nighttime paving operations.

At some interchanges, lanes may be restricted on surrounding local roads, and pedestrians and bicyclists may be detoured to the opposite side of the street (day and night).

The interchanges included in this project are:
• I-184 Westbound Ramp to Cole Road (Boise Towne Square Exit)
• I-184, Curtis Road Exit
• U.S. 20/26 and I-184 Ramps (Chinden Boulevard)
• I-84 Exit 50, Cole Road (Cole/Overland)
• I-84, Exit 26, U.S. 20/26 (Notus)

Work at all five interchanges is expected to be complete later this fall.

ITD asks drivers to plan ahead, pay attention and slow down in work zones, and be aware of the safety of construction crews.
