Wildlife warning beacons near Hailey temporarily out of order
HAILEY – Two wildlife crossing warning beacons along Idaho 75 north of Hailey will be out of commission beginning today (Thursday, Sept. 24) due to a technical malfunction. The extent of repairs and time until the beacons are operational is unknown.
The Idaho Transportation Department has been working to resolve a problem affecting the beacons for about two weeks, which was traced to an issue with the battery system. The unit was removed and is being sent to the manufacturer for repairs.
Drivers are reminded that the nighttime 45 mph speed limit between McKercher Boulevard and Buttercup Road remains in effect.
The wildlife signage and beacons, along with the associated nighttime speed limit, were installed in October, 2013 and has resulted in a reduction in the number of vehicle/wildlife collisions. Drivers are reminded to continue using caution along Idaho 75 to watch for wildlife throughout the Hailey-to-Ketchum corridor.
