Public invited to hearing Oct. 1 in St. Maries for upcoming bridge replacements

COEUR d'ALENE - Replacement of the St. Joe River Bridge and the St. Maries Railroad Bridge, and coordination with surrounding work, will be the topic of a public hearing Thursday (Oct. 1) in St. Maries. The public is invited to attend and comment at the meeting, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time at St. Maries City Hall, 602 College Avenue. The bridges are expected to be replaced in the 2016-17 construction seasons.

The bridges that need to be replaced are the two bridges located on Idaho 3 (3rd Street), heading north out of St. Maries — the St. Maries Railroad Bridge and the St. Joe River Bridge. Preliminary engineering is underway on the projects.

Staff from the Idaho Transportation Department will be on hand to review the projects, and to discuss how they will be coordinated with adjacent projects. The projects will have unavoidable delays to traffic on Idaho 3 and Idaho 5.

This meeting also will discuss coordination with a project that will improve intersections, sidewalks and pedestrian access at 3rd, 4th, and College Avenue, and improve the turning movement for trucks at these intersections. This project already has had a public meeting, as well as a public hearing; however, since it will take place at the same time as the bridge-replacement projects, and will involve replacing the city’s water and sewer lines, it will be discussed as well.

The meeting will be in open-house format and is handicapped accessible. A public hearing officer will be available to record oral testimony in a private setting. Written testimony will be accepted at the meeting and also will be accepted through Nov. 1 in the official project record.

It can be directed to Greg Brands by calling 208 772-1274 at ITD's district office at 600 W. Prairie Avenue, Coeur d'Alene, ID, 83616, or by email at Gregory.Brands@itd.idaho.gov
