Lane closures and restrictions begin this evening (Oct. 13) on Broadway Avenue at the Boise River

BOISE – At 8 p.m. today, (Oct. 13), the Idaho Transportation Department will close the far right lane on southbound Broadway Avenue between Myrtle Street and the Boise River.

The lane – which is used as an acceleration lane for drivers merging from Myrtle onto southbound Broadway Avenue – will remain closed through late this year.

Closing the lane will allow crews to relocate water and power utilities near the Broadway Avenue Bridge.

Additional nighttime lane restrictions will be in place on Broadway Avenue through the end of this week. Broadway Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction between University Drive and Myrtle Street from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be shifted to the southbound side of Broadway Avenue while lanes are restricted at night.

Intermittent lane restrictions will continue through late this year as crews continue to relocate utilities.

This work is part of preparation for removing and rebuilding the Broadway Bridge over the Boise River. Construction of the bridge could begin as soon as December.

The existing bridge is more than 50 years old and needs to be rebuilt so the structure and function meet today’s standards.
