ITD Board Chair, Law Enforcement and Private Sector Launch Comprehensive, Statewide Effort Toward Zero Deaths on Idaho Roads -
Media Advisory
WHAT: Too many people are dying on Idaho roads. In 2005, 126 of those killed and 1,953 of those injured in car crashes were not wearing their seat belts, costing Idahoans nearly $600 million. While the percentage of people wearing their belts has improved (stats to be released at the news conference), the state cannot continue to bear the human and financial toll caused by those who do not
buckle up.
WHO: The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), Idaho law enforcement agencies, and representatives of the newly formed Idaho Seat Belt Coalition will speak at a news conference tomorrow about a partnership to combat death and injury on Idaho roads. Toward Zero Deaths is a comprehensive highway safety plan for Idaho, and the Idaho Seat Belt Coalition is the first step to initiate that plan. The Toward Zero Deaths plan is an important milestone, as it marks the most inclusive effort to date to improve safety on Idahos highways and roads.
Speakers include:
Frank Bruneel, ITD Chairman of the Board
Mike Webb, Deputy Chief, Boise Police Department
Dave Carlson, AAA Idaho Director of Public and Government Affairs & Co-Chair, Idaho Seat Belt Coalition
