Innovations drive ITD to be the best

BOISE - About 18 months ago, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) adopted a more aggressive approach to finding solutions to everyday problems that arise when building roads and bridges and maintaining Idaho's transportation system. The results are impressive: 114 ideas for improvement implemented statewide, saving taxpayers more than $700,000.

Initial results have shown a marked acceleration in the ideas generated and submitted for implementation in the second full year of the effort.

Click here to check out the video ITD shared with the Idaho Transportation Board Thursday, Oct. 22 detailing these initiatives.

The department agreed to try something new, different or smarter in order to produce something better for our stakeholders – Gem State drivers and taxpayers.

“The innovation program dovetails nicely with ITD’s commitment to safety, mobility and economic opportunity for Idaho citizens,” said Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Jerry Whitehead. “In fact, cost savings, customer-service improvement and impact to stakeholders are at the heart of ITD’s innovative initiatives.”

“To be the best and deliver on our mission, ITD is harnessing the innovative spirit of our more than 1,700 employees,” explained ITD Director Brian Ness. “Innovation is the most constructive way to change and get better. We do not reject ideas. Rather, we empower employees to look for innovation in all we do from basic, yet effective, process improvements to the most creative ideas.”

Here are a few of the innovations:

http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2015/050115_Trans/050115_D2RockSkirting.html

<a href="http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2015/050115_Trans/050115_ConverseFlusher.html">http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2015/050115_Trans/050115_ConverseFlusher.html

http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2014/012414_Trans/012414_PaintBeadInnovation.html

http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2014/061314_Trans/061314_InnovateCrackSealing.html

http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2015/100915_Trans/100915_D6MeppenWZS.html

http://itd.idaho.gov/transporter/2015/021315_Trans/021315_LardoAward.html
One of ITD’s strategic goals is to use innovation to improve customer experience or reduce costs.
