TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Idaho 55 will close between New Meadows and McCall for two evenings this week (Nov. 4 and 5)

BOISE– Crews will continue blasting rock this week on a section of Idaho 55 between New Meadows and McCall, known as Goose Creek Grade. Blasting is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday evenings (Nov. 4 and 5) at one curve along Goose Creek Grade.

Both nights, Idaho 55 will be closed between McCall and New Meadows from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This work is weather dependent, and may be rescheduled if conditions are inclement.

In the event that all necessary blasting is completed on Wednesday, the road closure for Thursday night will be canceled. The most up-to-date blasting schedule can be found on ITD’s project website www.itd.idaho.gov/Projects/D3/GooseCreekGrade.

ITD is blasting to excavate rock from the mountainside of Goose Creek Grade. The work is part of ITD’s project to improve the alignment of four curves on this section of Idaho 55.

To date, approximately 2,500 tons of rock have been blasted from the mountainside area that crews are currently working on. The excavated rock is hauled to preapproved sites managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Adams County. It is anticipated this rock will be reused for blocking trail heads, preventing creek erosion and bank stabilization.

To sign up for email updates about construction on Goose Creek Grade, contact ITD at comments@itd.idaho.gov, visit the project website or call (208) 334-8938.

Knife River, of Boise, is the contractor for this road-maintenance project.
