Public hearing to be held June 23 for Menan-Lorenzo and Thornton interchanges
RIGBY - A hearing is scheduled to record public testimony regarding the location and environmental impacts of two new interchanges proposed for U.S. 20 between Rigby and Rexburg, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The hearing will be held in open house format from 4 to 7 p.m. at Madison Middle School, 575 West 7th South, in Rexburg. Displays will illustrate two potential interchange sites plus a no build option in the Menan-Lorenzo area and two potential sites plus a no build option in the Thornton area.
The proposed interchanges are designed to increase motorist safety by reducing the number of at-grade county road intersections with U.S. 20.
Environmental issues have been identified for each potential interchange location. The hearing provides an opportunity for the public to review those issues, discuss them with the project team and offer comments.
The Environmental Assessment document is available for review at the Rexburg and Rigby city offices and libraries and at the transportation departments District 6 office at 240 N. Yellowstone Highway in Rigby. The document is also available on the Web at itd.idaho.gov/getinvolved/d6 - click on U.S. 20 Corridor Plan, Menan-Lorenzo and Thornton Interchanges.
A hearing officer will be available to take written and oral testimony. Written testimony can be mailed by July 7 to: Public Involvement Coordinator, Idaho Transportation Department, P.O. Box 7129, Boise, ID 83707.
