Jerome public open house Wednesday (Dec. 9) to discuss I-84 project, temporary ramp closures

SHOSHONE – Interstate 84 paving between Wendell and Jerome will be discussed at an open house meeting Wednesday (Dec. 9) in Jerome. The public is invited to learn more about the proposal and provide comments about the project impacts. The work will improve surface smoothness and increase life expectancy of the roadway.

The open house will be from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jerome City Council Chambers, at 100 East Avenue A in Jerome. The project is scheduled for construction in 2018, but could be advanced to an earlier year if planning is complete and funding becomes available.

ITD proposes a plan to preserve roadway pavement by placing a full-width overlay and a seal coat onto the existing driving surface. Part of the project proposal would require the temporary closure of the entrance and exit ramps at the West Jerome Interchanges (Exit 165) during the four-to-six week project. The temporary ramp closures are being proposed as a cost-saving measure to eliminate the construction of additional median crossovers.

ITD staff will be on hand to answer questions and gather comments about the project. Information will be presented about the construction, traffic-control plans, cost estimates and duration of work. ITD is collecting input and comments from members of the public for consideration prior to construction.

Written testimony will be accepted at the meeting and may be submitted through Oct. 22. Questions can be directed to the ITD District Four office at 216 South Date, Shoshone, ID 83352, or by calling (208) 886 7800.
