Public open house Aug. 23 will kick off Idaho 39 corridor study
POCATELLO -  First steps in developing a 20-year corridor plan for Idaho (SH) 39 will be taken at a public open house Wednesday, Aug. 23, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. The meeting will be held at the city council chambers in Aberdeen from 5 - 8 p.m.

The corridor plan looks at the 30-mile segment of Idaho 39 from North Pleasant Valley Road in Power County, through Aberdeen, to Pingree in Bingham County.  As part of the study, the feasibility of developing alternate truck routes to relieve traffic congestion and increase efficiency for truck traffic along the route will be considered.

A corridor plan is a package of recommendations for managing and improving a transportation system developed through collaboration with local governments and extensive public input.

Corridor planning promotes money savings by identifying long-range right-of-way needs and anticipating potential growth issues before solutions become too expensive.

Judy Harmon, ITD senior planner, will lead the planning effort.  A Web site for this project will be available in the near future.  Information about ITD District 5 projects is available at itd.idaho.gov - choose Get Involved and southeast Idaho on the map.  For additional information contact Harmon directly at (208) 239-3369 or by email at judy.harmon@itd.idaho.gov
