Chinden Boulevard (U.S. 20/26) widening project to have traffic shift Thursday evening (Aug. 10)
BOISE - Traffic on Chinden Boulevard (U.S. 20/26) between Hewlett-Packard and Joplin Road will shift to newly constructed lanes on the north side of Chinden beginning at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 10), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The traffic shift will allow crews to construct a retaining wall and new lanes on the south side of Chinden Boulevard as part of the widening project.

Left turns from westbound Chinden Boulevard onto Five Mile Road are not permitted at the intersection's traffic signal.

Crews will install steel beams for a retaining wall along the south side of Chinden, near the Five Mile/Chinden intersection. Drilling activity to set the beams will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.  Work in this area will continue through late September.

Idaho Sand & Gravel is the contractor for this $6.9 million project to widen Chinden from two to four lanes between Hewlett-Packard and Joplin Road. The east end of Joplin is closed, but access is maintained to all area businesses and residences.

The entire widening project is expected to be complete this winter. The final section of Chinden Boulevard, between Hewlett-Packard's main entrance and Cloverdale Road, is scheduled for construction in 2007.
