Improvements to Lewiston’s Dike Route start Monday

LEWISTON - The Idaho Transportation Department will begin resurfacing a two-mile section of the Dike Route in downtown Lewiston, along the southern bank of the Clearwater River, on Monday (April 4). The project is expected to finish in late May.

This work will benefit the public by extending the life of the pavement and upgrading this section to current standards.

Work includes milling about two inches off the top of the existing pavement and replacing it with 6,000 tons of new asphalt, upgrading 10 curb ramps to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, and upgrading numerous signs and 3,000 feet of guardrail. The work will encompass portions of First Street, “D” Street, Snake River Avenue and 18th Street, as well as the U.S. 12 Dike Route.

The contractor will be working primarily during nighttime hours. Pilot cars will be used to direct traffic on the Dike Route portion of the project, between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Motorists can expect minor delays of up to 15 minutes during construction. ITD appreciates the patience of drivers during this period.

A portion of First Street, “D” Street and Snake River Avenue also will be closed April 18 and 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 a.m., with traffic being rerouted onto Main Street as flaggers guide drivers heading westbound toward Clarkston, Washington.

Poe Asphalt Paving Inc., of Clarkston, is the contractor on this $1.13 million project.
