Eastern Idaho highway construction report for Aug. 16-22
RIGBY - Two highway closures are planned at the intersection of Sunnyside Road and Yellowstone Highway (U.S. 26/I-15B) over the next two weeks, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The entire intersection will be shut down for six hours on Sunday (Aug. 20), from 6 a.m. to noon. The Sunnyside segment of the intersection will be closed for a week starting Monday (Aug. 28).

Following are details about the Sunnyside work and other projects in eastern Idaho for Aug. 16-22:

I-15, Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B: The intersection of Sunnyside Road and Yellowstone Highway will be closed Sunday (Aug. 20) from 6 a.m.  to noon while cross bars for the traffic signal are installed. Until Sunday, traffic will be confined to one lane in each direction with a four-way stop at the intersection. The Sunnyside segment of the intersection will be closed while Eastern Idaho Railroad reconstructs the tracks in conjunction with the Sunnyside Interchange project. The closure will last from Aug. 28 through Sept. 1. Motorists should use Professional Way as an alternate route.

I-15, Osgood Girder Repair: The northbound lanes of I-15, from north of Idaho Falls to Roberts, will be closed from 11 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m.  Tuesday. Traffic will be re-routed at Exit 119 in Idaho Falls to the Lewisville Highway to Idaho 48 and back to I-15 at Roberts. The closure will enable the placement of a new concrete girder on the Osgood overpass at milepost 122. The Osgood Road (North Church Farm/49 North Road) over the interstate is closed for the repairs that are expected to take until the end of September. Alternate routes for local traffic are Exit 119 in Idaho Falls and Payne Road (81st North) about two miles north.

U.S. 20/26, Tom Cat Hill East: Traffic is reduced to a single lane on U.S. 20/26 guided by pilot car through Craters of the Moon National Monument. Travel is rough between mileposts 224 and 233. An additional 45 minutes may be required to go through the work zone. Western Construction is building the new two-mile highway alignment and rebuilding 8.8 miles of roadway. Work will continue through September.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge: Traffic is reduced to one lane Mondays through Thursdays during working hours across the new Canyon Creek Bridge on Idaho 33 east of Newdale. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes. A 12-foot width restriction remains in effect. Zollinger Construction of Rexburg is constructing the road base for the highway alignment to the new bridge. The work zone speed limit is 35 mph.

Approach slabs: Bridge approach slabs on the Lewisville overpass on U.S. 20 in Idaho Falls and the Snake River Bridge on Idaho 48 in Roberts will be repaired starting Tuesday (Aug. 22). Motorists should be prepared for delays caused by one-way traffic through the work zones. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the Lewisville overpass. Traffic will be limited to a single lane on the Roberts Bridge, and controlled by a temporary signal light. Width restrictions are 15 feet on U.S. 20 and 12 feet on Idaho 48.
