I-15 to be closed for replacement of concrete girder
RIGBY -- The northbound lanes of I-15 north of Idaho Falls to Roberts will be closed Monday night (Aug. 21) for placement of a new concrete girder in the Osgood Overpass, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The northbound lanes will be closed Monday night from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Traffic will be detoured at Exit 119 in Idaho Falls to the Lewisville Highway and north to Idaho 48 and back to I-15 at Roberts.

The closure will allow replacement of a damaged girder with a new pre-stressed concrete girder on the Osgood overpass at milepost 122. The girder was damaged last fall by a backhoe being hauled on a truck.

After the girder is replaced, one northbound lane of I-15 at milepost 121 and the overpass will be closed for continuing repairs on Osgood Road. Repairs are expected to take until the end of September.

ITD engineers determined the overpass is structurally sound, but the travel lane directly above the damaged girder was closed to ensure the safety of motorists and to protect the overpass from further damage.

Local traffic can cross the interstate at Exit 119 in Idaho Falls or at Payne Road (81st North) about two miles north of the Osgood overpass.
