New revenue funds work on I-84 bridges in Elmore County beginning this week
SHOSHONE – Drivers along Interstate 84 should watch for maintenance work on four bridges over the Snake River near Glenns Ferry and King Hill beginning this week.
The bridge maintenance project, using funds allocated by the 2015 Idaho Legislature, is starting today (May 17) on the two Snake River bridges near the east end of Glenns Ferry at milepost 121. Work will also start later this week at the two bridges near the King Hill interchange at milepost 128. The work consists of minor concrete patching and placing an epoxy concrete sealant to the driving surface of each bridge.
The routine maintenance and pavement rehabilitation helps preserve these structures as they age, enabling ITD to maximize its bridge investment. This project will improve the ride quality across the bridge while extending the life of each structure.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. Drivers should watch for a reduced speed limit of 65 mph through the work zone. A 14-foot width limit will also be in effect.
Protech Coatings Inc. of Salt Lake City is the contractor for the $737,144 project. Work is expected to be complete by the end of June.
These bridge projects are two of the 27 projects advanced by the Idaho Transportation Board in 2015 using funds allocated by the Idaho Legislature in the state’s first transportation-revenue increase in nearly two decades. Doing so has enabled the advancement of dozens of other critically needed road and bridge projects statewide in the future.
