History of Broadway Bridge presented June 2 at Boise City Hall

BOISE - The colorful history of the Broadway Bridge, and the critical role it played as the downtown area developed, will be the subject of a public meeting June 2 in Boise.

The presentation, titled “Spanning Time:  A History of the Broadway Bridge,” will be held from noon to 1 p.m., on the third floor of Boise City Hall in the Greenbelt Room, at 150 N. Capitol Boulevard. Historian Barbara Perry Bauer will lead the discussion, which will also focus on how the bridge and the city’s other river crossings were constructed, as well as Broadway Avenue as a transportation corridor in the city of Boise and its vital role in linking south Boise with downtown.

The Idaho Transportation Department is replacing the Broadway Bridge in a project expected to finish this fall.

The Boise City Department of Arts & History is currently producing a historical research report and associated interpretive signs for the former bridge, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the bridges that previously spanned that same location.
