Resurfacing of Deary to Bovill on Idaho 8 begins today (Tuesday, May 31)
LEWISTON - The deep pavement resurfacing of a 10-mile stretch of Idaho 8 will begin today (Tuesday, May 31) with crews pulverizing the existing surface. The work is expected to extend the life of the roadway by 20 years. It will finish by late June.
The highway is in poor condition, with extensive transverse cracking throughout the project length. Culvert work occurred in the fall of 2015.
Crews will work from the junction of Idaho 3 and Idaho 8 in Deary to their junction in Bovill (milepost 26.3-36.3). The work consists of a CRABS (Cement Recycled Asphalt Base Stabilization) process and an overlay.
After pulverizing the existing surface, it will then be treated with cement, remixed, compacted and paved over with several inches of Superpave Hot Mix Asphalt. Signs and guardrail will also be replaced.
Drivers can expect a one-lane closure during construction. Flaggers and pilot cars will guide traffic through the work zones. Crews will work 12 hours per day each weekday, starting at 7 a.m.
Poe Asphalt Paving Inc., of Clarkston, Washington, is the prime contractor on this $3 million project.
The road was originally constructed in 1928, with curve improvements and road-widening projects added in 1957 and 1995.
