U.S. 30 pavement restoration underway from Soda Springs to Bear Lake County Line, funded by general fund surplus
POCATELLO - A project to restore damaged pavement between Main Street in Soda Springs and the Bear Lake County Line began today (Tuesday, May 31). The project will eliminate pavement deficiencies and significantly extend the life of the highway.
The work includes critical safety improvements, funded by $3.25 million in general fund surplus. The project also will improve the city of Soda Springs' economy by providing a safer and more efficient Main Street corridor.

Crews will grind (mill) off the top few inches of the existing pavement surface, and apply new asphalt in its place. To increase mobility for persons with disabilities, the Department will also upgrade ramps, making them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Crews will begin with the ADA ramps and complete prep work for the mill-and-inlay, suspend work for the Fourth of July holiday to accommodate the Soda Springs parade, then start on milling at 3 a.m. following the holiday observance.
The primary partners/stakeholders are the city of Soda Springs, Caribou County and Bear Lake County.
The Idaho Transportation Board selected road and bridge projects across Idaho in December 2015 for maintenance and repair work. The projects are all funded by the $54.1 million in general fund surplus provided by the Idaho Legislature last year. Selections came from a pool of projects based on analysis of each project’s return on investment in the areas of safety, mobility, economic opportunity, bridge condition and right-of-way purchases.
Staker Parson Company DBA JBP Co., is the prime contractor on this project.
