Work on St. Maries River Railroad Underpass starts Monday
ST. MARIES -- Work is set to begin Monday, June 13, on a project to realign and widen a short section of Idaho 5 at the St. Maries River Railroad Underpass in Benewah County. The work is expected to finish in about four months.

This project realigns a 0.15-mile segment of Idaho 5, starting around milepost 8.77, and widens the roadway from 26 feet to 32 feet on average, except right under the bridge.

The work also includes drainage improvements, retaining wall and concrete barrier construction, and the addition of new guardrail connections.

Drivers can expect temporary traffic signals and flaggers to guide them through the work zone. Two-way, one-lane traffic will be maintained throughout construction.

West Company Inc., from Medical Lake, Washington, is the prime contractor on this $1.1 million project.
