Construction update for eastern Idaho June 8-14

RIGBY - Travelers are advised that the South Rigby half-interchange will be closed starting Monday, June 13, for repairs, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The closure will remain in effect until about mid-July. Motorists will use the North Rigby Interchange or the County Line Road Interchanges as alternative routes into and out of Rigby. Recent rains caused some construction delays on projects in eastern Idaho, but progress continues on the following, reported for June 8-14:

Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B Traffic on Interstate 15 south of Idaho Falls is one lane in each direction between mileposts 114 and 120 throughout the summer. The speed limit is 55 mph. Work continues on the Snake River Bridge. Idaho Construction of Kimberly is the contractor for the $21 million project scheduled for completion by fall 2006.

I-15, breakaway signs, Idaho 33 IC to Montana line G.V. Construction of Garden Valley has completed the concrete foundations and is installing new breakaway signs along the interstate, northbound and southbound, from Roberts to the Montana line. The new signs will break away when hit by vehicles, reducing injury and property damage in case of an accident.

U.S. 20, Hitt and St. Leon interchanges Traffic is one lane in each direction. The speed limit is 55 mph. Western Construction of Boise is building the $19 million project, which is scheduled for completion by this fall.

U.S. 20 South of Ashton The contractor is waiting for good weather to begin paving U.S. 20 south of Ashton. Traffic is one-lane, one-way during work hours and controlled by flaggers and pilot cars between mileposts 353 and 360 south of Ashton on U.S. 20. Motorists should expect delays up to 15 minutes. The speed limit is 45 mph. The $1.8 million pavement rehabilitation is being done by H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls.

Holbrook Road Work continues on the permanently closed Holbrook intersection on U.S. 20 south of Rigby. H-K Contractors removed asphalt from 200 North east and west of the highway to prepare for construction of cul-de-sacs. The job includes lengthening the southbound on-ramp, building a cul-de-sac east of the highway, realigning 200 North west of the highway and repairing the existing overpass. The South Rigby overpass will be closed from June 13 through mid-July. Alternate routes are the North Rigby Interchange and the County Line Road Interchange.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge Work is scheduled to resume June 20 as the contractor, Sletten Construction of Great Falls, Mont., prepares for the delivery of the steel bridge girders. The speed limit is 45 mph. Traffic is being routed over the old bridge. The $4.3 million project is scheduled for completion by fall.

U.S. 93, Arco West H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls is paving U.S. 93 west of Arco between mileposts 233 and 246. The speed limit is 45 mp; delays of up to 15 minutes are possible. Where one-way travel is required, pilot cars and flaggers will direct traffic. The project is scheduled for completed about June 22.

Pavement striping Work is under way to re-stripe the interstate highways in Districts 5 and 6. Promark Inc. of Lolo, Mont., is the contractor on the $326,000 project. Progress will be dictated by weather.
