Duo from eastern Idaho named top road-maintenance operators, will represent state at nationals in Colorado
RIGBY - Demonstrating the road-clearing and equipment-operation skills that translate into safer, better routes for drivers, two maintenance operators from eastern Idaho earned top honors at the recent Idaho Transportation Department statewide equipment roadeo in Idaho Falls June 14. By finishing at the top of the knowledge and skills contest, the duo punched their ticket to the national competition in Estes Park, Colorado, this fall.
Trent Maupin, 2015 and 2016 statewide ITD champion from the Sugar City maintenance shed, earned a return trip to Colorado, Sept. 28-30 for the Western Snow & Ice Conference & Roadeo. Joining him will be runner-up Camilo Serrano, of Dubois maintenance, making his first trip to nationals.

“It was an honor to again compete with top operators from around the state,” Maupin said. “I was fortunate to have a good day. Camilo and I look forward to the regional competition in September.”
For the better part of two decades, ITD has sent the winners of the state roadeo competition to Colorado each fall to test their equipment skills and knowledge against the best at the western event.
ITD’s representatives have historically performed well in the western skills contest, with 20 top-ten finishes among the four events competed in each year.
