Road construction update for eastern Idaho, Aug. 22-29
RIGBY -- One leg of the intersection of Sunnyside Road and Yellowstone Highway (U.S. 26/I-15B) will be closed for a week starting Monday (Aug. 28), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The closure will continue through Sept. 1 while Union Pacific Railroad reconstructs the tracks in conjunction with the Sunnyside Interchange project. The alternate route for motorists will be Professional Way.

Here are the details about the Sunnyside work and other projects in eastern Idaho for Aug. 22-29:

I-15, Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B: The intersection of Sunnyside Road and Yellowstone Highway will continue to be restricted to one lane in each direction with a four-way stop at the intersection. The Sunnyside leg of the intersection will be closed all week. Idaho Construction of Kimberly expects to complete work on the entire $23 million project this fall.

I-15, Osgood Girder Repair: One northbound lane of I-15 is closed at the Osgood overpass (near milepost 122) north of Idaho Falls to allow for repair of a damaged girder in the structure. Osgood Road (North Church Farm/49 North Road) over the interstate is also closed for the repair. Alternate routes for local traffic are Exit 119 in Idaho Falls and Payne Road (81st North) about two miles north. The repair is expected to complete by the end of September.

U.S. 20/26, Tom Cat Hill East: Motorists can lose up to 45 minutes of travel time getting through Craters of the Moon National Monument along U.S. 20/26 west of Arco. Travel is rough from milepost 224 to milepost 233. Traffic is reduced to one lane and is guided by pilot car. Western Construction is building the new two-mile alignment and rebuilding 8.8 miles of the roadway. Work will continue through September.

U.S. 20, Idaho Falls to Rigby: Rumble strips will be ground into the shoulder of U.S. 20 southbound lanes from Science Center Drive to Rigby. Work will be done Wednesday through Friday. One lane of the highway will be closed for about two miles at a time as the work zone moves to accommodate the work.

Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge: Traffic is one-way across the new Canyon Creek Bridge on Idaho 33 east of Newdale Mondays through Thursdays during working hours. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes. A 12-foot width restriction remains in effect. Zollinger Construction of Rexburg is constructing the road base for the highway alignment to the new bridge. A 35 mph speed limit is in effect.

Approach Slabs: Work has started on bridge approach slabs on the Lewisville overpass on U.S. 20 in Idaho Falls and the Snake River Bridge on Idaho 48 in Roberts. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the Lewisville overpass. Traffic will be limited to a single lane on the Roberts Bridge, and will be controlled by a temporary signal light. Width restrictions are 15 feet on U.S. 20 and 12 feet on Idaho 48.
