Drivers urged to slow down and plan ahead if driving on Idaho 55 or U.S. 95 over the July 4 holiday weekend

BOISE—With increased holiday travel expected on Idaho 55 and U.S. 95 ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, the Idaho Transportation Department urges drivers to plan ahead, slow down and not drive aggressively.

Motorists that travel on Idaho 55 from the Treasure Valley to the McCall-area and points north, are encouraged to consider using U.S. 95 as an alternate route prior to, and after peak holiday travel hours.

Flaggers will also be assisting with traffic control on Idaho 55 in Banks, at the intersection of the Banks-Lowman Road between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on July 4. Message boards on Idaho 55 will remind drivers of this operation. Congestion, slowing and stopped traffic is expected.

ITD and the Idaho State Police also strongly encourage people to not speed or drive aggressively on these, or any other Idaho roadways. The top three behaviors associated with aggressive driving include failing to obey traffic control devices (speed limit signs, traffic signals and roadway markings), speeding and tailgating, and following too close.

“Idaho’s law enforcement agencies have zero tolerance for aggressive driving on our roadways,” said ISP Sgt. Jens Pattice. “We see too many lives lost and families destroyed because of speed and other types of aggressive driving.”
