U.S. 91 work, funded by general-fund surplus, to begin near Preston Aug. 15
POCATELLO - Work is tentatively expected to begin Aug. 15 on a project from the Preston city limits to the junction of U.S. 91 and Idaho 34. U.S. 91 is the main north-south route through this area and is a direct route south to Logan, Utah. The project is expected to finish in October.
Crews will restore and replace sections of curb and gutter and curb ramps in this 1.5-mile section of pavement, and install pedestrian push-button poles at two signal locations.
This project is funded by $1.8 million in general-fund surplus.
Preston is located just 12 miles north of the Idaho-Utah border, making it a critical route for freight moving through the state. U.S. 91 north of the Idaho 34 junction is also part of the Pioneer Historic Byway, so it is rich in Oregon Trail history.
The primary partners/stakeholders in this project are Franklin County, the city of Preston, the trucking industry and area businesses.
LeGrand Johnson Construction Company, of Logan, Utah, is the prime contractor on this project.
The Idaho Transportation Board selected road and bridge projects across Idaho in December 2015 for maintenance and repair work. The projects are all funded by the $54.1 million in general fund surplus provided by the Idaho Legislature. Selections came from a pool of projects based on analysis of each project’s return on investment in the areas of safety, mobility, economic opportunity, bridge condition and right-of-way purchases. This is one of the projects that resulted from that action.
